Idea
🧐 The problem: scaling E2E
- E2E encryption only works for simple chat apps today
- The limiting factor is the cell phone
- You can’t implement a server layer on a cell phone, but sophisticated applications rely on a server layer that has access to plaintext
- Things that are hard without a server: backup, search, ranking, discovery
- Not buying it? More details
💡 The solution: keyservers
- Your keyserver owns your keys, your data, and your digital identity
- Comm will not host your keyserver for you, but our tools will help you deploy one
- We will initially support deploying keyservers in the cloud ☁️ or on a spare laptop 💻
- Eventually, we’ll support cloud-based TEEs and sell dedicated hardware
🔒 The keyserver is a privacy platform
- You can install apps on your keyserver that operate in a sandboxed environment
- Consumers get a guarantee that data in the sandbox can’t escape out of it
- Sandbox includes your devices+keyserver and your Comm friends’ devices+keyserver
- App developers never get access to your data
💬 GTM: Web3 Discord
- Comm is the first sovereign chat app that can support the Discord / Slack feature set
